Chile once again
Today is August 14th and I am flying to South America to go and train in Chile. The Western region puts on a training camp and then there are some downhill and super-g races after the camp I will race in. Last year my goals in the races were to place in the top ten and I placed in the top five. This year my skiing is tremendously better and my goal is to win every day. This is a big goal but it is a very achievable one. Wish me luck and continue to check in for updates on the camp and the races from Chile.

Mt. Hood summer training
Ahh, Mt Hood Oregon, the most popular summer ski destination in the world. I am currently out in Hood training and doing a little coaching at a ski camp. We are up at 6:00 am every morning and ski from 7:00 until 12:00 every day. In the after noons I work at the Blizzard test center tuning, waxing, and mounting bindings on skis for people who whant to try the new product.
It has been so nice to get back on snow and enjoy all of the activities that Mt. Hood has to offer ther it will be tough to go home on the 26th of June. But I do have to get back to the money making job so I can race again next winter.

Not much rest for the wicked
Well the ski season ended well for me. I accomplished all of my goals except one and that was making the U.S. Ski Team. I went home rested for a week and then started working for the next couple of weeks. I just had a very successful training camp in Mammoth California, and feel excited for the next camp at Mt. Hood in June.
I have also put out a new video to help me get sponsors for the next season.
I will be up loading that video in the news/blog section so everyone can see it.
I hope that you continue to follow me in my ski racing because things are just getting started.

US National Alpine Championships
Day seven of nationals was the Giant slalom. On the first run I was skiing well. I was 22nd on the first split and I started 73. Then I had a little mishap and only moved up three for the second run. On the second run I skied really well but the damage had been done on the first run.

Day six of Nationals brought on the downhills. This morning in the training run I started 23rd and finished 15th. It was good run but I could have cleaned up a couple of thing, but overall not a bad run. This after noon in the race i started 23rd again and finished 32nd. I was on track for another top 15 finish when I caught an edge in a turn and almost went into the nets. I had to come out of my tuck and was sliding not arcing to stay on course. that cost me presious time and I ended up not doing as well as I could have.

Day three of the National Championships has been canceled due to extremely high winds. After yesterdays downhill training was canceled race organizers moved into a slalom schedule for today. My room mates and I woke up to high winds and a phone call from one of the coaches telling us that there would be no race for the day. Weather permitting we will try to do the downhills again tomorrow.

Day two of the US National Championships has been canceled. Last night the weather never got better and it snowed about seven inches of sugary snow with an ice layer on top of that. This morning we woke up to find out that the schedule had been pushed back. Snow cats worked the hill all morning and then we got to inspeced the course. shortly after inspection, at about 12:15 pm we were told that there would be no training run and to move on to the back up slalom schedule. Tomorrow we will be racing slalom on the lower part of the speed hill.

Today was the first day of downhill training at the US National championships in Sugarloaf Maine. The weather today was terrible. We woke up and it was snowing and foggy. Then the wind really started to pic up. Around 11:00 am this morning we got a call from the coaches, while we were sittinging the lodge, that the race had been canceled for the day. Tomorrow we will try to get of another training run but supposedly the weather is going to be worse. Another rough start to another race at Sugarloaf.

The Great Frozen North Eh??
Hello again! Well this week I am racing in beautiful British Colombia. Sun Peaks BC that is. The races started on thursday with the giant slalom race. The first race went well I placed tied for fifth. Not to bad, I scored a 48. Then on fridays giant slalom I Placed eighth, but was closer to the winner over all and scored a 45. So all in all not a bad two days.
Today was the first day of slalom. Now slalom and I have a hit an miss relationship. Today I was ripping and then it went to the hit and miss relationship. I Loaded up my skis and flew out of the course and landed on my head and left shoulder. I am ok and will be glad to do it again tomorow.

Still winning!!
Well this past weekend of Febuary 16- 18 I raced in some lower level USSA races one was a giant slalom and the others were super-gs. I placed second in the gs and Third in the first super-g, I won the second super-g and in the third super-g I won as well. This race was more or less just me helping out the penalty for the younger ski racers in the Northern Division. If I wouldn't have been there to help bring the penalty down the other younger racers wouldn't have been able to score as good of a result.
Today I am going into do an iterview with the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. They will be writting and article on what I am doing in ski racing and what my goals are and what my hopes are for this sport.
My next race will be held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming this next Thursday through Sunday Febuary 21- 24. I will be doing the usual daily blog entries reporting on my progress with the races. So please come check in and see how I am doing. Remember the results page of my web site updates with my latest results. Hope to here from you and have a nice day.

So today was the first race day of the downhill at Whitefish Montana. I have some very good new.... I won the race today!! I didn't think it was that steller of a run but I knew it was clean and smooth but didn't think it was a winning run. I Put together a solid run and ran away with it. I won the run by almost a half second, and scored a 34 point result. I also qualified for the Western Region Team and U.S. Nationals in Maine in March. I just want to thank everyone that has supported me over the years. Scott Foster and Love Mountain Sports. And Wink Jordan for helping get the Doug Smith Downhill Races off this year. I just hope i can keep up these types of results for the remainder of the season.

Back at Beaver Creek
Well today was an ok day. I Skied really well I just leaned in on one turn and put my hand down. That got me late for the next gate and lost me some much needed time. I don't know what I scored for a result but I don't think it will help much. I started 20th today and ended up 13th overall. Still move up but not enough. Tomorrow will be the first day of downhill training on this track. I Think that it will go much better that today.

So today was the first day of the Rocky Central Region fis elite speed series at Beaver Creek Colorado. Now I know what you're thinking and it is not the same course as the world cup that I foreran here in November. Today we raced super-g and I started 21st. i finished 8th overall. I am happy with this result because I haven't skied super-g in quite some time.
Check in later this week for more news about Beaver Creek.

This was my first trip to the east and to say the least i was expecting a little better venues. But on a britter note I will be flying home tomorrow to go train at Big Sky and to get ready for the next race wich will be at Beaver Creek Colorado.

Well today we awoke to a nice suprise. Air temperatures were in the 50s and the wind was ripping. Instead of my alarm waking me it was a phone call from the head regional coach Jeff Pickering telling us that the day of training had been cancelled, and that we should just plan on doing some dry land training, a jog, streching and core workouts. Lets hope that tomorrow will be better.

So today was the first day of downhill training. The corse is simple but if you don't nail a few key turns it will bite you in the ass. Today we had fog on the top of the course and high winds at the start. The snow conditions were nothing like east coast skiing usally is, the snow is soft and slushy. usually the snow is hard and blue ice. The bad part was that today was cancelled and we will try to do it again tomorrow.

My next race will be in Sugarloaf Maine. This race will consist of two downhills and no super- g for the men. The women will race one super-g. These races will be the next Nor Am Cup speed races for the season and and the final ones. After this race series the Cup leaders will be announced and the top two will be awarded spots in next years World Cup races. I am planing on doing well in these races and lowering my points to better my world ranking in order to make the U.S. Ski Team. wish me luck.

Holidays
Home at last. I was on the road 33 days strait and loved every minute of it. But you do have to come home and recenter youself every once and a while, or you will go nuts. The trips were tiring, but now that they are over I am going to get some much needed training and learn to go even faster. Hope everybody has a great Christmas and New Years and make sure to eat lots of pie.

Canadian tech races
After the Nor Am Cup races in Panorama I drove to Banff for the Provintial Cup Tech races held at Norquay ski resort. This hill is by far the hardest hill I have ever started out the year on. It's steep, icy, and turny. The GS races went well. I got a good feeling being back on my skis and had some good runs and some bad runs. The slalom races were a bit of a disappointment. I did not finish one of them, but I had some really good runs.

Nor Am racing
Well I know its been awhile from my last entry, but that is because I was in canada and my laptop took a dive and no longer works. So the news is that the downhill races in Lake Louise went well. I didn't place as well as I wanted to, but I did score some results and that is all that matters. From there I went to Panorama, B.C. and raced in the Super G's. The first day I fell on my hip, and the second day I screwed up the only money turn on the course. But other then that I skied well.

Forerunning at the Beave
Today was the first day of downhill training at the Birds of Prey in Beaver Creek. The experience was unbelievable. Getting to inspect along side the greats of the sport like Herman Mayer, Dedir Cuche, and Bode Miller. The real experience came when I got to run down the course. It was the fastest i have ever gone not in a tuck. You get going so fast that you can't tuck even if you wanted to. I made it down and was PUMPED UP!! I just wanted to go do it again.
Check out the pics in the Gallery section of the site.

Forerunning at the Beave
So Today is the first day at Beaver Creek Ski resort for the forerunning camp for the Birds of Prey World Cup Downhill. As I slipped down the track for the first time the only thing i could think of is, WOW this is sooo much steeper than it looks on TV. The other guys and I looked over the course and got a feel for it so we would know what we were getting into. IT LOOKED INTENSE!!!
see tommorow for updates on forerunning.

skis and am looking forward to getting some Super-G training in
Tomorrow at Copper Mountain.
Hope everybody is doing well, and check in again to see what i'm up to next.
